Sometimes meetings feel like this:

But not this week.  Our Chapter meetings so far have felt like this:

and this…Sally_laughs_bit

and this:

On Friday evening my congregation of Dominican Sisters began our 2006 Chapter of Affairs.  We are meeting for a week of prayer, reflection, discussion, challenge, and hope building.  We meet like this every three years and this year we have the blessing of being visited and having Mass with the Master of the Dominican Order, Carlos Azpiroz Costa, OP, who happens to be in the West visiting the Friars over whom he has leadership.

While Sister congregations are not directly under his authority, we all respect and look to him as a spiritual father in our Order.  We are truly blessed to have him here as we are challenging ourselves to look to the future of our congregation as well as the future of the order.

I will be praying for all our collaboritive efforts as Dominicans, as Catholics, as Christians, as Children of God.  (I hope you find yourself in there somewhere!  I certainly do.)  Happy Father’s Day.

More than one way to get a ferrari, apparently!

Stephen Colbert spoke at Knox College’s graduation recently.  I found his speech via Chris T who posted a comment on Susan Rose’s blog. Some great thoughts on improvisation – that is to say LIFE.

You have to keep your eyes open when you do this. You have to be aware
of what the other performer is offering you, so that you can agree and
add to it. And through these agreements, you can improvise a scene or a
one-act play. And because, by following each other’s lead, neither of
you are really in control. It’s more of a mutual discovery than a solo
adventure. What happens in a scene is often as much a surprise to you
as it is to the audience.

(emphasis mine – cuz what happens in life is as much a surprise to everyone else as it is to you… I think.)

Friday Five: (Even though it’s not going to rain today here!!!)
Today’s Friday Five asks five questions about rain, all intended
to help us look on the bright side of life. Let a smile be your umbrella!

1. Favorite way to spend a rainy day: Book, Coffee, and a good Nap!

2. Favorite song about rain: Singing in the…

3. Favorite movie featuring rain: Joe Vs. The Volcano – There they are, on the boat – "Looks like we’re in for a blow!" – and then the water, the waves, the capsize, the island… the romance of it all – and the absurdity.  🙂  Close second: Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day.  "And the rain came down…."

4. Favorite piece of raingear, past or present: Years ago my mom gave me a black umbrella with little white music notes all over it.  When you put it up, it bursts into "Singing In The Rain…"  It’s too fun.  And always makes me smile.

5. Favorite word for rain: Rain (oh that’s so unoriginal)…
